DID YOU KNOW
With a little a patience, you can learn just enough about
lice and their lousy habits to know how to avoid the growing
infestations of lice around the country - and maybe even
save a young child's life. If you're in a big hurry to get
rid of lice, or you're anxious to know how to AVOID these
little bloodsuckers, we have great news for you. Here's
the nitty-gritty:
1.) Lice, like any other parasite, prefer hosts with the
most toxic body. (Did you ever notice that lice have a field
day on one child, but don't seem to bother with others,
even though the lice are highly contagious?) Step one in
prevention is detoxifying your family, especially children,
whose immune systems are more vulnerable to the toxins all
around us. This includes avoiding toxic pesticide lice shampoos!
Other key toxins to avoid: pesticides used in the home,
and anything that is heavily fragranced like perfumed laundry
detergents, scented hair products, scented candles and air
fresheners.
2.) Build your family's immune system by increasing consumption
of fresh fruits and vegetables (you can wash off any pesticides
with Heartland's All Purpose Solution). Juicing your own
vegetables is an extremely effective immune builder. For
more on immune system boosting, click www.licesolution.com/healing.html.
3.) When and if you get lice, don't add to your child's
toxic exposure by using a neurotoxic pesticide lice treatment!
Chemical treatments for head lice contain potent pesticides
and insecticides known as pediculicides. They include: Lindane
(now banned in California), Malathion, and Pyrethrums/Pyrethroids.
These pediculicides have been known to cause immuno suppression,
seizures, vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions, circulatory collapse,
behavioral changes, neuromuscular damage, chronic skin eruptions,
liver damage, asthma, respiratory failure, stillbirths,
birth defects, cancer and even death. Since head lice are
developing a resistance to pediculicides, the uninformed
parent may tend to use more, leave them on for longer periods
of time or even apply them too often, increasing the risk.
For a copy of the Harvard Study on lice resistance to common
chemical treatments, call the Heartland Helpline at 1-888-772-2345.
4.) So what is the best solution for lice? Lice and their
nits (eggs) no longer need to be an exasperating, nit-picking
exercise in patience. Heartland's Lice Arrest, a safe, effective
enzyme solution not only helps wash out lice, but makes
nit combing easier. To quote Carol, an elementary school
RN from Pennsylvania, "Lice Arrest has been very effective
in treating the children in our school. I'm very grateful
that we now have a safe alternative to use on our children
and we don't have to worry about poisoning them. Thank you
for carrying such a wonderful product!"
5.) Be prepared! Keep at least one bottle of Lice Arrest
on hand, or call Heartland today to find out where it is
carried in your local area: 1-888-772-2345. Visit our website
at www.licearrest.com.

DEAR HEARTLAND,
"Last February my daughter got head lice. We went to the
drug store and picked up some Nix. We also combed through
her hair for three (3) straight days. She went back to school
and the school nurse said she was nit free. Two weeks later
she had lice again. This time we went to the drug store
and tried "Rid", of course we washed all of her clothing
and bedding again and sprayed everything that we could not
wash!"
"We combed her hair for days and again she was nit free.
However, 1 week later she had lice again. This time we tried
a prescription. Again we washed everything and combed her
hair. We even cut her hair short, it was shoulder length."
"I ran a day care and have 4 other children, but the only
one who would get lice was my daughter. Then my clinic gave
her your name and some information about Lice Arrest. I
was willing to try anything by this point. I received your
product two (2) days after I called. We used it right away
and we were very happy! It worked. We could see the bugs
dead in the sink, with all the other treatments the bugs
still moved when we combed them out. We didn't even have
to comb. We did for about 5 minutes, but her head was clean.
To this day, almost 1 year later she is lice free. We are
very pleased with this product! I will recommend Lice Arrest
to anyone who ends up with head lice. It's a God send."

HOT NEWS
MUTANT MALATHION - Summary of article by Eric Baard
The Village Voice, July 18, 2001
For months, the malathion sat in Deep South warehouses
and outdoor storage tanks, baking in the summer sun. Destined
for mosquito-control programs, the insecticide was supposed
to be stored at temperatures no higher than 77 degrees Fahrenheit
to avoid conversion to a more deadly poison. But there it
was, unrefrigerated in parts of the country where mercury
can climb toward 100° F day after day.
No one knows exactly how toxic the chemical has become,
or how much of that malathion, also known as Fyfanon ULV
(ultra-low volume), has been shipped north for use in New
York's attack on the West Nile virus. The EPA recently reported
that tests of malathion in New York-area holding tanks found
traces of a poisonous neurotoxin called isomalathion - a
byproduct created when malathion is exposed to high temperatures.
After spraying parts of the state last month, some three
dozen people sought treatment at a hospital after they were
swamped by a malathion cloud at a softball game for teenage
girls in Glen Falls. "The problem is people think if something
is legally approved and sold, then it must be safe," Canadian
doctor and pesticide specialist Libuse Gilka told the Post
Star of Glen Falls. "They don't realise that those approving
these things are only slowly learning about the side effects."

A NOTE ABOUT MALATHION AND HEAD LICE.
Malathion is available as a prescription-only lice remedy
called Ovide which was reluctantly relaunched after having
been discontinued in the early 1990's. Before you consider
this as a solution for your child's head lice, read more
about the dangers of pesticide lice treatments in www.licesolution.com/pesticides.html
or call the Heartland Helpline at 1-888-772-2345.
