The Hormone Balance Test
(Ref: What Your doctor May NOT Tell You About Breast Cancer, by Dr. John R Lee, page236.)

While a saliva hormone test can give a very accurate picture of which hormones are out of balance, it's always best to compare this to symptoms. For this reason, we have devised a Hormone Balance Test that can give you a good sense of which hormones are out of balance, based on your symptoms alone. Ideally you would be working with a health care professional both on determining which hormones are out of balance and on using natural hormones to bring your body back into balance.

Read carefully through the list of symptoms in each group, and check each symptom that you have. (If you check the same symptom in more than one group, that's fine.)

In any group where you have two or more symptoms checked, there's a good chance that you have the hormone imbalance represented by that group.

The more symptoms you check, the higher the likelihood that you have the hormone imbalance represented by that group. (Some people may have more than one type of hormonal imbalance.)

ANSWERS

SYMPTOM GROUP 1 - Progesterone deficiency.

This is the most common hormone imbalance among women of all ages. You may need to change your diet, eliminate synthetic hormones (including birth control pills), and begin to use some progesterone cream.

SYMPTOM GROUP 2 - Estrogen deficiency.

This hormone imbalance is most common in menopausal women, especially if you're petite and/or slim. You may need to make some special changes to your diet and take some women's herbs (see What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Pre-menopause); some women may even need a bit of natural estrogen (about one-tenth the dose usually prescribed by doctors).

SYMPTOM GROUP 3 - Excess estrogen.

In women this problem is most often solved by getting off the conventional synthetic hormones most often prescribed by doctors for menopausal women. Adding progesterone often helps relieve symptoms and balance hormones.

SYMPTOM GROUP 4 - Estrogen dominance.

This is caused when you don't have enough progesterone to balance the effects of estrogen. Thus, you may have low estrogen - but if you have even lower progesterone, you can have symptoms of estrogen dominance. Many women between the ages of 40 and 50 suffer from estrogen dominance. You may want to try using some natural progesterone cream.

SYMPTOM GROUP 5 - Excess androgens (male hormones).

This is most often caused by too much sugar and simple carbohydrates in the diet, and can often be dealt with through simple dietary changes.

SYMPTOM GROUP 6 - Cortisol deficiency.

This is caused by tired adrenals, which are usually caused by chronic stress. If you're trying to juggle a job and a family, chances are good you have tired adrenals.

Please read either What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Menopause or What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Prememopause book for detailed recommendations on restoring tired adrenals.
